Chairperson’s foreword
Dear All,
I am happy to present the Annual Report 2019-20 of Atul Foundation Trust.
Just when 2019-20 was about to end, COVID-19 pandemic scripted a new chapter in the life of
human beings and has since forced new normal ways of living. The pandemic, amongst others
(such as simplicity, minimalism, hygiene and exercise), has taught us that strengthening villages
and making them self-reliant (
atmanirbhar
) is the way forward for India. Atul Foundation in its
own small way is working in villages to unravel their potential.
During 2019-20, Atul Foundation continued with the initiatives to provide quality education -
Atul Adhyapikas created signifcant change in reading, writing and basic arithmetic capabilities
amongst children of class 1 to class 4. Students of Atul Vidyamandir made themselves and their
school proud with their achievements in sports, fne arts and academics - they won many state
and national level medals. Throughout the year, life skills training was imparted to teachers of
all the institutions. The Foundation trained 1,139 tribal youth in various vocational courses apart
from imparting training to 161 farmers in beekeeping. 500 individual household toilets were
built in 15 villages of Gujarat. 5,807 patients from 30 interior villages of Gujarat were treated
through 44 eye camps and health camps along with blood donation camps. 3,633 students from
13 schools and 321 women of nearby villages were given treatment for anaemia and made
aware about the disease. In response to COVID-19, it distributed 3,887 grocery kits to daily
wage earners and needy people from 25 villages. Face masks were stitched and donated to
corona warriors and NGOs. It developed 17 Model Anganwadis in seven villages and renovated
a school and hostel to provide better infrastructure to the students from rural areas in and around
Atul. In an endeavour to protect the environment, it planted 40,211 trees.
It also took special initiatives to pay tribute to the legendary Founder of Atul, Mr Kasturbhai
Lalbhai on his 125
th
birth anniversary.
In the present uncertain times of the pandemic, Atul Foundation is committed to protect health
and well-being, particularly of those less fortunate. It is working on developing large number of
Poshanwadis
in villages, building Model Anganwadis and implementing household solid waste
management projects in villages to create sustainable impact on the lives and livelihoods of rural
communities. It contributed ₹ 3 cr to the PM CARES Fund and ₹ 2 cr to the Gujarat Chief Minister
Relief Fund to complement the mighty efforts of the government.
